First Fridays in Philadelphia happen on the first Friday evening of each month, from 5pm to 9pm, rain or shine. This is a time when most galleries open their doors to promote new shows, serve wine and cheese, and celebrate the artwork they exhibit.
In Philadelphia, the pulse of the art scene is clearly visible when walking through the streets of Old City during First Fridays. People come out in droves, ranging from curious passersby, serious collectors, artsy enthusiasts, hipsters, artists, performers and the simply curious pour onto the streets and into the galleries that participate. Some of the most interesting galleries to check out on a First Friday are Locks Gallery, Seraphin Gallery, Bridgette Mayer Gallery, and Shmidt-Dean Gallery.
